I just noticed the "drag" feature in layout ! YAY, but need help!

Thank you KiCad developers!!

Using : Version: (5.99.0-9650-gad505e29c0), release build

I have been trying to use the “D” drag feature to drag a footprint with traces, and it looks GREAT! thank you, but I am having an issue… I can hit “D” - move my part where I want it, then I click with the mouse to place it, and it goes right back to where it came from? I can’t get the part to “stay” where I am dragging it to. I am sure I am missing some obvious hotkey to place the part, but for the life of me I cant figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not using the same version of software so maybe not …
When I drag a object/trace and something is too close (causes and error) I can not place the object. Try a very small drag or look to see if one of the traces to causing a error.

OK you are on to something! The parts pins (4 pin header from the standard libraries conn_01x04) turn green while I am trying to drag it. I am guessing this is the real-time DRC running, and getting upset about something to do with this part, and not allowing the changes to take place once I have “put” the 4-pin header where I want it. If i repeat the exercise with a an IC, the drag works properly, no pins turn green during the drag, and the drag is allowed to end where I click with my mouse. So, now the question becomes, how can I tell what the DRC is getting upset about, and not letting me drag the 4 pin header?

Thanks!

Hello,

I am not working with KiCad right now, so I have not tested this:

Configure the Router to allow violating the rules. Then start the DRC. it should list what is wrong …?
