and download on server help smaller installer file and
easy community has made improvements
if not exist symbol footprint 3d can download and install

3D models are STEP and big because the files are complex. The libraries are distributed compressed, so I don’t see why XML would shrink them

STEP files have a XML binding but it uses even more disk space than EXPRESS files (EXPRESS is the standard file format of STEP).

I was very care of disk space when I was designing PCB using Racal-Redac at IBM-XT with only two 360k floppies and no HDD. But nowadays I practically don’t worry about it.
