I created a symbol but cant see the pin names on the schematic view

I am completely new to Kicad and I am sorry if this turns out to be a stupid question.

I created a symbol on my own.
I saved it and added this to my schematic view, however the pin names are not showing.
Here are my settings:

How do I solve this?

To provide more information:
this is what happened in the schematic view, allt he pins names are suddenly gone

this is the symbol I created

never mind I solved this problem, I am stupid.

make sure you guys select fill with body background color , not fill with

You’re not stupid.
What’s stupid is that Kicad doesn’t default to the correct choice of fill.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve needed to go back an edit a part because of this.

I have never noticed that problem. Probably because long time ago (KiCad V4) first IC symbol I have started from copying one of KiCad symbols and then whenever I need to design new symbol I start from copying one of already designed symbols.

What is wrong in my opinion is this that when you select “Fill with:” then in symbol editor you normally see pin names while at schematic not. It should be the same.

While we are on the topic: What is the purpose of filling symbols with a color? I do not see how it adds clarity and I never do it. If I print a schematic diagram, I suppose that using a fill color will help to keep the printer toner manufacturers in business.

An even better obfuscation is to change the border width to a larger number, such as 5000.

I happen to like it. I makes the schematic look more modern.
And, it allows different component functions to be color-coded.

e.g.:
(from a recent EDN)

Neither of those are permitted!!

I prefer the “stone knives and bearskins” (quote from a former colleague) look.

And aesthetically more pleasing. Pastel shades seem to work best. :slightly_smiling_face:
