How to use teardrops in 6.99/7.0 RC1

Updating this to be more of a tuorial is it’s fairly easy to implemented.

To use teardrops go to PCB Editor. Under Tools you can add and remove teardrops which will then be added/removed from your PCB.

Teardrops are added as zones

and can be viewed in the 3D viewer:

If you do not see them then make sure Objects Manager / Objects / Zones is enabled, and your zones are filled, as they are added as zones.

They do work for me, and they appear to be created as “special zones”.
They do not render on screen if you turn off: Objects Manager / Objects / Zones

I can select the teardrop on PCB Editor but when checking on 3D viewer I don’t see it.

Is it working for you in the viewer?

Yes, they show up in the 3D viewer too:

The 3D viewer still does not render solder fillets though…

You have to fill zones because teardrops are zones.

Ahh yes of course.

Thanks, was as simple as that.

I thought I already mentioned the Zone thing in my first reply…

The tile you make for this topic has a nice name. I guess lot’s of people are going to find it in the future. I did not answer to your question of how the parameters work exactly. Can you update your first post and make it in a mini tutorial for this topic?

You did but it didn’t register

I’ll update the OP and add in the details.

Thanks for the feedback.
It’s always a bit of a struggle to find a balance between getting the message through and verbosity.

What if adding a teardrop causes a clearance error. Is the tool clever enough to prevent that

from playing around yes. It won’t add them if it can’t but typically if you have tracked from a via you must have had clearance to track out

It doesn’t prevent clearance errors but it doesn’t cause them, either. Because they are small zones, they are filled so that they avoid other nets. They don’t keep their shape by force.

Ok. So, I can add teardrops to whole board. PC board looks much better with teardrops, more professional.

Love the teardrop but There may be a problem with isolation. Straight line teardrops (on my PCB) reduced track to GP from 0.6mm to 0.48mm. Curved line tear drops reduced track to GP to 0.8.

Did you refill the zone after? (B)

No, and thank you for the reminder it is good after refill.

Is this Plug-in only available for ver 6.99-7.00

This isn’t a plugin, it’s a new native implementation in 6.99/7.0.

Ok, I’ll wait for release candidate Aha, spaces are not counted in 20 chars.

7.0.0 release candidate 1 is out already.
