How to use local labels

Hi there,

I am new to KiCad.

When placing local labels, do I click on the local label icon, then click in the middle of the wire? When I do this, there is a tiny square at the end of the labelled wire.

Should there be a square or not?
http://docs.kicad.org/4.0.6/en/getting_started_in_kicad.html#using-eeschema (example shows a square)
However, several youtube videos don’t have the square (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWP_GX69Kqo&t=264s)

Thanks very much in advance.

Local labels work when you place that little square on top of a wire segment. Try to avoid ends and junctions to make spotting other mistakes easier. if you make a valid placing, the square hides.
They are valid on a single page of a schematic, so two nets each labelled with the same name, on the same sheet will be joined
