How to route track on USB C Receptacle B Row?

Hello. Noob here using the USB C Receptacle for the first time.

I can route track for any pinout on the A Row on the USB C Footprint but how do I route track for the B Row?

In the picture if I try to route track for a pin on the B Row it wont go anywhere. I have tried hitting ‘v’ to put a via hole but doesn’t work either.

Does the B Row need to be tracked or is it already internally tracked to the A Row as part of the USB-C Receptacle?

Welcome to the kicad forum!

You have a keep-out area marked maybe that prevents dropping vias?

No, you cannot ignore row B since the plug can go in two ways – you have to do some routes to parallel some pins, and it’s pretty awful with an smt jack.

If you don’t need fast speeds, and don’t need this board smt-assembled, might I recommend the thru-hole usb-2.0-speed usb-c jack from cui: UJ20-C-H-G-SMT-TR
Vias are built-in

Thank you very much for answering my question.

This particular receptacle you chose is very difficult to route - there are many other options with better routability. The one you chose is designed for HDI boards where you have much smaller vias, and can place those vias inside pads. Pretty much any other USB-C receptacle is better for routing.

Ok thanks. I changed to this one. Was way easier and seems very common.
