Is there a way to update copper pours without running DRC. I’ve looked through nearly every menu option and cannot find it.
Thanks
John

KiCad philosophy is hot-keys are preferred over menu. Try to be familiar with not only ‘b’.

Thank you. I guess I’ve come to expect a menu option for every hot key. Now I’ve learned to look at the hot keys 1st
Sometimes the RMB menus (context menus) are surprising. Maybe you don’t expect to have a specific context menu for example for routing, but it’s there when you are drawing new tracks. Same for zones: activate a zone and choose the context menu. There’s Zones -> Fill All etc.
There is a fill option under the edit menu but I can’t easily screen shot it as the menu disappears when I activate the choose selection. I’d have to edit a whole screen shot to do it.
Offtopic: what OS do you use, hermit? On Windows I use ShareX, see what region I need for such a screenshot, take a dummy screenshot of that region, then open the menu and use a shortcut key combination which I have set to take a screenshot of the last used region. I haven’t found a good way to take a delayed screenshot with ShareX. On Kubuntu I use Spectacle which can take a delayed screenshot like this:
Just a line of text is also sufficient:
Pcbnew / Edit / Fill All
@hermit
In the screenshot program I use on Linux I can set a delay before the screenshot is taken, which gives me time to open a menu and point the mouse pointer. Then I have the option to open the (big) screenshot in a simple drawing program. Then as the third step I take a screenshot of the screenshot in the editor program, which makes it easy to make a small cutout.
Hey eelik:
you don’t have “Zones” in your screenshot and have an extra “Interactive Delete Tool”…
I’m still running on: Version: 5.1.5-52549c5~86~ubuntu18.04.1, release build
Does your “(un)fil All” also (un)fill tracks and pads?
Sorry, I had 5.99 open and used that as an example… That’s from the main menu. The items for zones are the same in 5.99 than in 5.1 in the main menu and in the context menu (only the context menu has Zones submenu).
???
Filling and unfilling are different than switching between outline and normal viewing modes. Tracks and vias are never filled/unfilled.
I’m sorry, but I completely fail to see the difference between tracks, via’s and zones in this context of (un)fill and viewing modes.
To me they are to similar, and that is also the reason for my confusion and my question in my previous post. Anyway, with the “Zones” text added in the menu, there simply the function is much clearer to me and there is no room left for the confusion.
Viewing modes are only visual aids (only outlines are visible, or the object is seen as it is).
Filling a zone avoids objects of other nets and creates a very complex polygon or several polygons which is seen in gerbers as graphic areas (polygons). Unfilling a zone - well, it removes the filling or “pour” so that if the gerbers are generated without refilling first, there’s no copper in that zone at all. Filling or unfilling would be meaningless for tracks or vias.
Linux/Spectacle It will do a full screen but as soon as I click on anything I lose the menu. I’d have to edit it in another program. Not all that. Basic concept though. B is the key. That’s the best way so just learn it. That’s the main reason I didn’t get too hung up on the menu. Just wanted to mention it IS there. I felt the hot keys menu capture was the most useful thing to point out.
My screenshot was taken directly with Spectacle without editing afterwards. It lets me select the rectangular area with a delay without loosing the opened menu, I just opened the menu and waited for the delay.
