Highlighting net not working in PCB editor

Hi,

in the PCB editor, no matter hom much I type ’ to higlight a whole net it does not work
how do I fix this ?

thanks

Are you actually typing the quote mark? If so, it’s not working because the hotkey is actually ` (backtick)

actualy for me it is U for some reason

U is a different action, it expands the selection of a track to other tracks on the same net that are connected. Selection and highlighting are not the same thing.

well highlight does not work, so I have to select

I tried rebinding the ’ to be sure, but nothing happens

Hi @phil12345678911

The function works perfectly on this:

What keyboard layout do you use? Can you confirm that you are using the backtick key, which is also the tilde key (~) to the left of the 1 key on a US layout? You keep using single quote (') instead of backtick (` ) in your forum posts and I want to make sure you’re hitting the right key.

Beligan AZERTY

in PCB editor, nothing happens no matter what I try to highlight
I even try rebinding the keys, just in case, but they dont change so I am pressing the right key

What if you right-click on a track, go to Net Inspection Tools, then Highlight Net?

additional ideas:

  • selection filter (bottom right of screen): pad+tracks enabled?
  • does the highlighting work with CTRL+left-click on a track/pad? (this must be enabled in preferences–>PCB editor–>editing options–>CTRL-action)

A clearer view of the French Azerty:

Tilde is lower case super 2.
Backtick looks like lower case super 7, but I’m not sure as it is marked as a dead key (but so is tilde marked as dead :face_with_raised_eyebrow:)
Lower case 4 is a single quote, not a backtick as it matches the double quote on lower case 3.

A couple more thoughts

Although the lower case super 7 is blank on the Belgian Azerty, it may work.
Failing that, perhaps changing the keyboard to French Azerty (if not too insulting :slightly_smiling_face:) in Windows (if possible), may give access to that key.

If all else fails, change the “Highlight net” hotkey. Note: it is easy to miss the backtick symbol in the hotkey list, so make sure the monitor screen is clean.

Exactly!!!
Change the hotkey to a letter. There are a lot of hotkeys one never use. In my case I have h to highlight and shift+h to “unhighlight”

same as hitting the U key

yes all enabled
and CTRL+click works but only select a part of a track

Belgium is not France
is Canada the same as USA ?

and as mentioned, I rebound the keys in preferences to be sure

U works fine for me, as these very belgian keys
²²²²²
‘’‘’‘’’

this is the upper left key → ²²²²²²
not only it works but it binds well in preferences/hotkeys
I tried binding other keys, same issue

what is that ?

Below is most of the English Qwerty 104 character keyboard.

The green arrow is pointing to the “Backtick” symbol. This is the hotkey assigned to “Highlight net” in Kicad.
The red arrow is the “Single quote” symbol you have been trying to use to “Highlight net”.

A green arrow is also pointing to the “Backtick” symbol on the French Azerty keyboard.
There is no “Backtick” on the Belgium Azerty keyboard.

I thought I considered this with:

EDIT: The idea of using Windows to change your keyboard to French Azerty was to see if the backtick hotkey on your keyboard (lower case super 7) performed the hotkey function “Highlight net” assigned in Kicad.
