I cannot hide the footprint value although I set visible to false
any help appreciated
DISCLAIMER: You don’t state what version you are using. I’m assuming that you are using the current stable release (5.1.9) and not the unstable nightly version(s) (5.99). Instructions and screenshots are from 5.1.9 on Win10.
In the Layers Manager on the right of the PCBNew window has two tabs. Select the second one labeled Items. Check to see if you have Hidden Text turned on. See this screenshot:
If it is checked, uncheck it and the hidden test should vanish before your eyes. Alakazam! (Sorry, feeling a bit punchy right now…)

ok so I have to set them hidden and yet disable the hidden text…
Yeah, I don’t know why it seems that showing hidden text is on by default. (Or at least I don’t recall ever turning that toggle on…)
