Helping understanding this 2 Pin JST connector datasheet

Hi! I hope you’re doing well. Obligatory (and obvious by the title) “I’m a newb, so please bare with me” :slight_smile:

I am designing my first ever PCB, and I think I have identified the correct connectors I would like to use to plug in a couple of LiPo’s.

DigiKey is kind enough to provide footprint/schematic files here

My questions are:

What is the third circle shown on the digikey website? I gather it’s a two-pin component, but I don’t know what that third circle is.

Furthermore, if on the website they show three circles, why does my import show four?:

Have you checked the standard KiCad libraries? There seems to be a match in:

JST_PH_S2B-PH-K_1x02_P2.00mm_Horizontal

Third-party footprints can be problematic.

I don’t think that the one you shared is a right-angle connector.
Does it matter in this case?

Oh, wait, does the “horizontal” mean right-angle?

The third circle is only on the silk screen, and it’s a Pin 1 designator.

I don’t know whether this is the right angle or the wrong angle, but under this angle it does look a bit Horizontal.

And for your extra circles. I tend to agree with 3Dogs here. I do see 4 circles (cross eyed?) The yellow one is probably a pin one indicator on Silkscreen, and the grey circle a pin one indicator on the Fab layer. But what is more important here is to learn to check such things for your self. So load your footprint into the footprint editor, and then examine the properties of all it’s constituents.

If you look at the datasheet for JST PH series connectors (here) you will see that the top entry connector is labelled -BnB- and the side entry is -SnB- where n is the number of pins

In my experience JST are better than most manufacturers in terms of consistent product labelling but you should always look at the datasheet to confirm

@swrdfshii We usually ask that you connect to the datasheet. That is the ‘real’ information.
