Help with importing arduino pro mini, and Meanwell LDD700h schematics

Hi,

New to Kicad, also new to learning PCB design.
I have a schematic in PDF format that I’m wanting to create in KiCad.
This schematic includes an arduino pro mini board, and a Meanwell LDD700h LED driver board.

There are Eagle library files for these parts, my question is how do I get them into KiCad. Do I have to create new parts?
I need the component schematic and pcb layout versions of these.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
To save the hassle, I’m happy to pay via Paypal to get these files made to save me time.

Thanks,
Matt

Arduino parts are mostly already available, either in the Atmel library or out there on the Internet, search with Google.

The Meanwell part - I think you need to make your own symbols. You will have to learn how to do this. There are some good tutorials

…through hole or SMD?

The datasheet I found (http://www.meanwell.com/mw_search/LDD-H/LDD-H-spec.pdf) wasn’t very clear about the position of the through hole pins 11/12/13/14 in regards to the others… they only gave a distance for the pin 1/2/… to the edge of the housing up there. The model and the footprint do NOT obey that as I positioned them aligned to the center of the device… I assumed a grid with 2.54 mm (similar to the SMD pad positions).
So please be careful - you need a real device to check/get the missing (I guessed) dimensions!

Have fun creating the symbols I’d say

PS: donate to KiCAD @ CERN if you want to spend money. It’s appreciated. (via KiCAD website, top right corner, Donate Button)

I wasn’t aware Meanwell were branching out into this area, I know them as mains smps makers.
The part does look like it is based on a 24 pin 0.6" DIL footprint

You may find a project for making the Arduino Pro Mini itself in the KiCAD “Templates” folder. That is enough information for you to construct a footprint and symbol relevant to your particular project. Look in \share\kicad\template\Arduino_Pro_Mini.

Be careful with modules in the Arduino world - they are NOT all mechanically interchangeable! I have had problems with this when using both the Arduino Pro Mini, and the Real Time Clock module (called “ZS-042” by some vendors). See comments at Arduino Blank Shield Available? .

sorry to bring this again to life, but maybe somebody still has the files, as theyre no longer available? thank you

What files?
There are already a bunch of files embedded in this post.

If you want or need more help, then put some more effort in it to show us what you’ve done yourself, what you want exactly and where you got stuck.

For now I’ll close this 9 year old thead. Start a new thread if you need more specific help.

The links don’t work for me. Something has gone wrong with the forum migrations

The links do indeed seem to be broken.
I’ve re-opened the thread in case someone wants to attempt to fix the links, but the quickest way to get some result is probably to put those filenames in a generic search engine, or just simply look elsewhere for similar files. For example, with RepoRecon you can find lots of KiCad related projects, libraries and other stuff.

Not sure we need to fix a 9 year old thread?

It’s unclear if Grigore wants the LED driver board or the Arduino module or both. The latter are in the old lib and dcm format. Maybe the original contributors can respond or the files can be found on the Internet. There doesn’t seems to be anything we can’t do about the loss in migration this late.

Dale @dchisholm still pops in from time to time

The project that used those Arduino modules was two computers ago. I’ll have to brush up on either archeology, or necromancy, and then see if I can find those files in an old backup.

I am not so much interested in whether these old files can be recovered, but more in the cause the links got broken The “asdf” string below is from a working picture on the kicad forum, while the “hhhhh” string is from a broken url in this post. Both are hosted on the same amazonaws.com location.

Is there any reason to worry about this?

Grigore,

Here are a bunch of files that came up when I searched an old hard drive backup. I will let you sort through them to determine which files are most useful to you, which are latest versions, etc. If we ever cross paths in real life, I’ll hit you up for a serving of my favorite malt beverage.
