Having trouble uploading files to JLCPCB

Hi everyone, I just want to say that I am new to all this, so if I mess something up, please tell me.

So today, I tried uploading a gerber file onto JLCPCB and got hit with the “Incorrect format. Please upload file in rar or zip format and use English filenames.” error message. I tried searching it up but couldn’t find any information on it. Could anyone please help me?

Thank you.

JLCPCB has explicit instructions for preparing Gerbers for upload with several CAD programs, including KiCad versions 4 through 8.

You can also reach out to their customer service reps through chat or email from their website.

Setting auto-close in 3 hours as this is not a KiCad topic.

Don’t forget the last line from that JLCpcb instruction page:

If everything is OK, now you can zip the out folder and place the order.

Zipping up all the gerber files together is common among (all?) PCB manufacturers.

Asking how to use KiCad to submit Gerbers is rather KiCad-specific.

OTOH, JLCPCB has step-by-step instructions with pictures, so I hope that’s sufficient for the OP.

The submission is done through the browser, not KiCad.

Although mention should be made of JLCPCB plugins that ease the task of generation and submission, especially if PCBA is ordered.

Since this is off-topic already, I’ll just mention I’m amused by retiredfeline sparring with starfishguy and rrpollack

It’s not about the submission, but on how to prepare the files (Settings / zipping up, etc) and I do feel this has enough overlap with KiCad to keep it open.

Yeah, the limits are a bit arbitrary.
