I’m drawing a footprint of a small on board transformer device. Using the footprint editor I quickly created and placed pads roughly to position and size them later.
Can I group together a bunch of pad and give them a different size at once? Or should I have begun with the right pad size from the beginning and place it multiply afterwards?
Yes.
Right mouse click on a pad to show the available menu. Towards the bottom of the list are the three actions Copy, Paste & Push pad properties.
Push will work but read practice and understand the purpose of each. In fact, learn to use everything in the list.
Yes.
Select, edit and place the first pad. Each subsequent pad placement will stay the same as the first until you edit again.
The “Push pad properties” to other pads was my preferred tool in the past, but since kicad v9 I have used it only seldom.
With kicad v9 the properties panel was introduced to the footprint editor. So to change some parameters on multiple pads at once:
enable left side properties panel
select all pads you want to change
set the numbers in the fields “Size X” and “Size Y”
save
This workflow works for many settings.
@ChristophK : one wish: please write the used kicad version in your opening post, sometimes the answer depends on this (older versions do not offer all functions).
