Grid issues PCB Editor

Grid settings are driving me nuts. I set the grid to 10 mil in Preferences/Grid. Then I see a 10 mil grid in the PCB editor. I use the “N” key to change the grid size interactively. So far that works.

Now I’m switching back and forth between PCB and Schematic editor and at some point my grid setting is changed to som seemingly random chosen mm value.

When I move my footprints around, thay never snap exactly to the grid, but always a fraction of a mil off-grid. I then have to use the properties panel and enter a numerical value for X and Y to get the footprint whare I want it to be.

Is it me or is it KiCad?

Starting position X = 1000, Y = 2600, grid = 10mil

Now I move the foorprint 20 mil right and down - or rather, that’s what I intend to do.

The footprint tries to snap to the grid, but misses it by a fraction of a mil.

I didn’t change the grid in the display and preferences is still showing a 10 mil setting.

The X/Y deviation from the grid remains the same, regardless how far away I move the footprint fro mits original position.

Version number!?

I am using 8.0.9 and didn’t noticed such problems, but I have also not searched them by frequently switching between PCB and schematic.

Last times there were many posts about grid issues in 9.0.4.

Apparently there are some issues with grid alignment in 9.0.4 which should be addressed in 9.0.5.

Also, be observant on where you are picking when selecting a footprint to move. Picking an element other than the origin of the footprint can put the origin of that footprint off grid when it is placed in its new location.

@tryitagain: thank you. I’m on 9.0.4. I hope to see this fixed soon. Very annoying.
