Hi, in kicad 8.0.8 on windows.
In the schematic,
when I move a wire with the Grab (Key G), it can often create a new connection with another wire next to it.
Is it possible to stop the behavior ? if my movement create a new connection I would want a message like in the pcb editor when a shove trace violate the DRC.
The PCB editor only knows it’s a violation as it has the Schematic (& ratsnest) to tell it what is and is not permitted . . . the schematic doesn’t have this information from another source, it IS The source.
well when I’m moving the wire, the software is creating a new connection. So it does know that it is creating (and drawing) a new connection.
So it could be done
How does the software know when you want to create a new connect and when you don’t ?
I’m not drawing a new wire.
I’m juste moving a wire using the grab command. So I don’t see any use case where I would want to make a new connection.
in the same way, if you move a component using the Grab it tend to create new connection (or merge wire together), which is also a pain.
There may be a bunch of users out there who rely on that exact functionality . . . so if it’s removed for your use case they will be a little annoyed.
I do take your point though . . . it can cause issues if you don’t notice what happened . . . I’ve also inadvertently dragged a wire and just happened to notice before I implemented the corresponding change on the PCB.
I know this has been discussed before, maybe there is a feature request/issue raised already for it on GitLab, if not that would be the correct place to raise it.
Not absolutely necessary here, but it might be helpful if you post a .gif showing the undesired behavior?
I use Licecap to create .gifs.
You mean gif animation? Please avoid it if possible, they are annoying.
Yes, agree, these is very strange/bad function, should be possible to at least disable, now probably an bug.
It’s not a bug . . . and what you are asking to fix would stop you changing this . . .
to this . . .
Because that would be making a new connection using the G (Grab) key.
Dont understand. You can produce simple video showing what u mean?
Just reproduce it in KiCad . . . and see for yourself how you would make that new connection without using Grab.
