Are SVG files the typical format downloadable symbols file format?
Learning curve for using KiCAD for creating schematics? Most using KiCAD for 2D drawings?
Thanks for the advice.

I’m not expert in file formats but for me svg is only graphic file format while symbols contain more information than only graphic. Symbol in addition to contain graphic have also to define pins and its type.
Why you need a source to download symbols? Do KiCad libraries have too little symbols as for your needs?
I think learning curve for creating schematics is to learn using hotkeys: A,P,M,R,X,Y,W.
KiCad is not graphic drawing program. If you need to draw graphic use Inkscape. If you need to draw technical 2D drawings use LibreCAD.
