Hi, is it possible to use the gitlab-libraries (https://gitlab.com/kicad/libraries/kicad-symbols) with the latest (?) stable kicad release 5.1.7?
The readme says " The libraries in this repositiory are intended for KiCad version 5.x
Each symbol library is stored as a .lib and .dcm file pair."
But the repository contains .kicad_sym files!?
Or is there an assumption now in force that everyone contributing symbols will be using nightly unstable anyway!??
You will need to use the v5 libraries:
https://gitlab.com/kicad/libraries/kicad-symbols/-/tree/v5
The .kicad_sym files are the new format for v6 for when its released.
OK, well let’s hope 6.0 is released soon, if the changes in github/gitlab now effectively makes it impossible to contribute to the libraries with the stable 5.1.x series…
That’s more of a requirement than an assumption. V6 release date is a little late to start with v6 libraries.
Also, I have no idea what you’re talking about. https://gitlab.com/kicad/libraries/kicad-symbols/-/blob/master/README.md clearly states the ones on the master branch are v6
