I 'd like to know, what are the criteria uses by this function “Edit->Cleanup Tracks and Vias” for delete tracks and vias.
I have some tracks and vias which are delete by this function then they respect all rules:
I never removed the button “Disable design rules checking” and “Disable auto delete old track”.
Yeah, that feature is not very discerning. On a test board, it killed some of my test points. It’s possible that it didn’t think these were real because it was not hooked up from output to input (ERC type errors).
I think the easy solution would be to not use it. As far as how it should work, that might take some more study.
It is known to delete “via in pad” quite often. Not always, but it is not safe to use with them. Always save your design before you use it and run a DRC check afterwards, just in case some tracks fell victim to it.
So what do you all use when you want to delete existing tracks and reroute? In my newbie use case, I’ve laid out my PCB, then decided to go from 1206 to 0805, so now I’ve rearranged everything and need to reroute…
If you want to raze the fort:
…mouse, no tool selected, draw a big selection rectangle over the area where you want the tracks to be removed (left mouse button), in the dialog that appears select ‘include tracks’ only (deselect all the others) and then move the tracks to the side of the board… either drop it there and check what you got (can always hit [CTRL]+[Z] to go back) or delete the ‘floating’ selection while you got it (right mouse button, delete block).
