On the footprint edit screen, if the path is a Japanese folder, the characters will be garbled and a reading error will occur.
Is your KiCad version up to date? 5.1.12 is the latest “stable”, but many prefer 6.0RC1 already and feel it’s actually more stable. There have been problems with internationalization but many have been fixed over time, so having the latest is a must.
By the way, this forum is run by end users, this isn’t the official place for bug reports. You can find bug reports here: https://gitlab.com/kicad/code/kicad/-/issues?scope=all&state=closed&label_name[]=i18n. Some similar bug has been fixed after 5.1.7. If the bug exists in 6.0RC1, please report it.
