Ok Couple of questions about assigning footprints in the schematic.
Where are the mini-din footprints the DIN library seems to be the 100mil pitch 32/64/96 way type board to board connectors.
the there any way of seeing the actual board footprint when assigning it in the schematic, this would make finding the correct one MUCH easier.

I do not know the answer to your first question, but I would use the footprint editor to browse and preview footprints.
It is relatively easy to make your own footprints if you do not find what you need in the standard footprint libraries. Be sure to save your custom footprints in a custom footprint library, not the standard one.
