Footprint selection window ("footprint chooser") is corrupt

When you want to select a footprint in the schematic editor, you go to the properties and then click on the footprint library symbol in the footprint field. However the popup footprint chooser window is unreadable.
Tried to reinstall the software and tried a different project, but the problem persistst. Most likely the problem is in is one of the configuartion files that are not overwritten with a software reinstallation.
It makes life difficult to select a footprint is you can’t read the text…

Please help! Already filed a bug report, but it looks like the “bug team” lacks capacity.

Which version are you using? I just tried V9.0.0 and is very much readable.

You can clean you configuration files by deleting the config files in the folder: %APPDATA%\kicad\9.0

Make sure to make a copy of the config files to another folder before you delete just in case.

Thanks, that solved the problem. I do need to restore some settings, too bad.
Just for the record, I run the latest & greates released version 9.0.1.
Had a few unexpected crashes so far, far more than in the (at least) 10 years of using KiCad before.

What is wrong with the text in that screen-shot? It looks fine to me.

@3Dogs
spot the difference :grinning:

Oh.
Yes, that first screen could be a problem.

“Unreadable” is probably not the right word - it implies garbled text. “Blank” would be a better choice.

If you followed the advice “Make sure to make a copy” you can restore and fix the issue probably by going back the the old config and opening pcbnew.json, then just deleting the section

"footprint_chooser": {
...
},
