I’m quite new to Kicad, so maybe is just that I didn’t find the way to do so, but it could be amazing to have a small window in which is possible to see the footprint you’re assigning before doing it.
It will save lot of time, i think. Even more when you have to chooses between 100 different header pins, (smd, angled, big pitch, small…), visual recognitions is much faster and less error prone than very long names.
Personally I open up PCBnew, click on add a footprint, and find them that way. I’ll add them with the schematic edit feature so that I can do a copy and paste of the component and have it duplicated throughout the schematic whenever I add it again.
