I installed some footprints for TO 92 SOT 23 and TH Switches. They appear in the menu and I can assign them but, the image doesn’t show up. When I make a PCB the interface shows the “rats nest” connecting to “invisible” parts. What is going on here? What am I doing wrong?
In the first picture you can see the rats nest reaching out to two invisible parts.
In the second image you can see I’m selecting the footprint which shows in the menu but doesn’t have an image.
Hmm, I see that you’ve used a simulation transistor symbol rather than the normal transistor symbol. I don’t know if it has any effect on the footprint, but unless this is a simulation schematic, you should be using a normal transistor symbol.
See this topic for a similar problem: Odd DRC errors
Good observation, I hadn’t noticed! I thought it was a generic NPN type! I’ll swap that for something else and see if that helps.
What’s weird is if I double click on the invisible footprint it opens the Footprint Properties dialog box, and if I double click where the rats nest line ends, this should be where the pad is located, it opens the Pad Properties dialog box!
I’m a beginner with Kicad, I’m sure there is something that I have missed or haven’t mentioned that might explain this, I just know enough to identify it.
There might be a visibility toggle somewhere that’s turned off, perhaps because it’s a simulation symbol.
It certainly does appear in my Footprint Editor.
And it also appears in my Footprint Chooser.
I seem to remember some bug related to Footprint Chooser. What is your KiCad version? Always mention that in queries.
I just updated to version 8.0.5 and the footprints are now showing! Thanks for the help!
You may run into this again (it seems to come and go in 8.0.x), but I believe it’s fixed for good in 9.0.
