Footprint - Multiple Layers

Hi everyone,

I’m designing a PCB that has a connector mounted on the edge of the board. I’ve included an image of an example done in a different tool to give you an idea of what I’m hoping to accomplish. From the image it should be clear that I need a set of pads on the top and bottom layers of my board. I’ll obviously have to design a custom footprint for this in KiCAD but I’m wondering what the best way to go about this is. Should I include two 2 pin connectors in my schematic as separate components and then align them mechanically on the board? Or is it possible to create a single 4 pin component and then design a footprint with pads on multiple layers?

Of course, and that’s what I recommend. One component, one symbol, one footprint.

Thanks for the clarification, didn’t realize that was possible in the footprint tool for some reason!
