Footprint editor

I hereby certify that I am not simply asking someone else to design a footprint for me.

This is an auto-generated message that is in place on the “footprints” section of the KiCad.info forum. If I remove it and ask for a footprint to be designed anyway, I understand that I will be subject to forum members telling me to go design my own footprint or referring me to a 3rd party footprint site.

Hi, this is my first post on the kicad forum.
I am using v8.0.3 and I am editing a footprint.
I have magnetic snap to pads and graphics ticked.
I also have all items ticked in the selection filter.

My problem is when I try to draw a line and snap it to the centre of a pad that is not on the current grid kicad is not snapping to the centre of the pad.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong.

For me it does work. When drawing a line I can snap it to the center, a corner or the center of an edge of an SMT pad. But to be able to do so, The copper layer of the pad has to be the active layer. Snapping is a bit weird in KiCad and often limited to only the active layer.

Wow, thanks for that. I never knew that about the active layer. Thank you for your prompt response and your super helpful explanation :+1:
