Hi All. I have noticed that I can only draw on the silkscreen layer when creating footprints.
However the footprints in the library has drawings on other layers. How do I get to draw on the fab layers?

Select the layer, then draw on it.
For text, select the layer when you place text.
Also if something really needs to go onto a layer you can’t select in the fp editor to draw in, draw it on some other layer, then select the drawn elements properties and chose a different layer for it.
Keep in mind though, some of those restrictions have a valid reason, so be sure what you’re doing and expect the software to fight you each step on that off-track-path
Thanks for your input, but I far as I can see, there is nowhere to switch layers in the footprint editor?
There should be a layer manager on the right hand side. Click on a layer name to select the active layer. Possibly in some versions of KiCad this can be turned off. In Pcbnew, it’s under Preferences->Show Layer Manager. Perhaps the setting in pcbnew also affects footprint editor?
Thanks that did the trick.
