F.Cu and B.Cu pads of different size

It’s a few years since a similar question has been asked.

I’m trying to modify a pin header footprint to have an elongated rectangular pad on B.Cu and a standard, circular pad on F.Cu.

In the pad properties dialog I don’t seem to be able to adjust the front and back pads independently.

Am I missing something?

Or should I just accommodate this during the layout phase?

Thanks!

Just add a rectangular SMD pad on top of the THT pad. Give them the same pad number.

That’s for now. But then, padstacks would be a useful feature in many cases.

True padstacks have been on the horizon for KiCad for quite some time, but not implemented (yet)

Until then, I’m with eelik. In KiCad it is very common to make complicated pads out of multiple pads with the same pin number. This is used extensively for example in Footprints that have thermal via’s.

Thanks. That works perfectly.

You can also look at it in the 3D viewer. if you of the board body and mask layers, then the via’s an tracks are floating in thin air and you can look at internals of your PCB easily.
