Exclude part of schematic from PCB

I searched around to see if I could find something like I’m talking about…but, I’m definitely not sure what to call it.

The short question is: can a portion of the schematic be excluded from the netlist that is sent to PCBnew?

Details:
I have a hierarchical schematic. Some of the schematic is for reference and is not going to be on the PCB.
For instance, the solid state relays and the harness to connect them to the output connector on the PCB. (i.e. the connector-cable-connector) Thus the cable ends and the SSR’s won’t be on the PCB. The output connectors will.

When 4.0.6 was current version I have read all KiCad pdfs. I have noted that if element reference starts from ‘#’ that element will not be in netlist.
I have never tried it.

I would prefer to understand that schematic is a schematic of PCB and not the whole device. So I would have the second schematic containing PCB and external elements as a device schematic with no need for being a source for netlist.

I am undoubtedly missing it, but, I can’t find a way to add a non-hierarchical schematic to a project in 5.1.2.

I was thinking about having that second schematic as another KiCad project.
