Eschema 7.0.7 and printing of schematic on linux only prints borders

Hi,
I’m running KiCAD 7.0.7 on Linux Mint. I’ve got a super simple schematic, but when I print to my brother Laser printer, I only get the outline of the schematic sheet. I’m printing US Letter size. Wierdly enough, I can plot to a .ps format file and then that prints just fine.

The printer is a Brother MFC-L2750DW and it prints just fine. So I suspect there’s something in the schematic where I’ve got a layer not setup to show or something. I vaguely remember reading about issues like this in past, but couldn’t find anything in the forum search tool which seemed relevant.

So this is more of a heads up, and not a super big complaint since I have a work around. I guess I can try to print to a file and then compare the differences between print and plot output.

KiCAD details.

That is odd.

I have identical Kicad version and Mint OS version and print works on an Epson ET3700.

Does the schematic show in both the Kicad print preview and the Printer print preview?

Maybe your printer ran out of “smoke coloured ink”?

But seriously what do you get when you print to file then view the PDF? Is the schematic still missing? That might help locate the problem.

Is there a difference between printing in B&W or color?

Also: KiCad V7.07 does not exist. Your full version info shows V7.0.7, so you should put that in the title of this thread.

I’ll do some more testing and see if I can narrow it down. I suspect (after reading some other threads) that it’s a wierd interaction with my printer setup and KiCad.

Hmm… this is interesting. I’ve just opened up my project and pulled up the schematic. When I do Ctrl-P to print, and then click on the print preview button, I see my schematic, but I do NOT see the outline around the schemtic with the board info in the lower left. So when I close that preview and then hit print, I get the system print dialog. I then hit preview there and I see my design, but I don’t see the outlike and lower right corner info box like I do on the screen.

I wonder if the issue (now that I’m awake and looking more closely at the “plot” output I got last night, where my design shows up with a Size: A4, even though I’m pretty sure I changed my settings to be US Letter by default.

I need to go edit my project and kicad defaults to reflect my default printer paper size.

Umm… I thought I wrote 7.0.7 in the subject and all my test?

In any case, I seem to NOW be able to print both the schematic and the board info. But it’s kinda random and wierd what’s giong on here. I’ll try to re-create this some more and see what I can find, but it would seem there’s something funky on Linux. Or it’s a simple ID10T error, or PEBKAC of course.

Love the tool and love what it let’s me do. I need to kick some more money into the project as a thank you.

This box controls the printing of the sheet border and title block in the Print mode.
