Hello. I’m brand new to Kikad, with a clean and pristine 7.08 installation on my PC.
My very first attempt to explore DemoProjects (any of them) triggers an error upon opening their respective pcb boards (.kikad_pcb). Opening schematic files (.kikad_sch) or symbol files (.kikad_sym) does not trigger any error.
In english, the message would translate in : "The PCB xxxxxxx.kikad_pcb is already opened by “à”. “Interlaced saves/backups may produce unpredictable results”
There’s a bug in the 7.0 series of versions which leaves a lock file in the project folder if KiCad has crashed. On the other hand I don’t know how KiCad could have written that lock file in the first place because in normal installation the demo projects should be read only in under Program Files/KiCad.
EDIT: you don’t have to worry about that warning. The important detail is “Interlaced saves/backups may produce unpredictable results”, and if you don’t edit the same project in multiple KiCad instances, there’s no problem.
Under help > about Kicad you will have an option to copy relevant technical info about your setup. Please edit your post with that info. We don’t even know what OS you are using.
Thanks both of you for your quick (very quick !) reply. I just submitted a bug report on GitLab for this error to be cared of, with all relevant config. details. This is much frustrating as the first hand-on steps on the software (simply opening a demo project) should be free of errors.
For the time being, I understand I won’t be wrong ignoring that warning…great, heading to next step !
I added a confirmation to your bug report. I get the same issue.
For the next time, try to put a bit more effort in the details. For example:
KiCad V7.08 does not exist, your version info shows V7.0.8 with an extra dot.
There is a typo in your filename extensions. You posted “kikad_pcb”, while your screenshot shows: “kicad_pcb”
When an issue is raised both on this forum and on gitlab, add links to them to make it easier for others wanting to contribute. I did it for now, as it’s relatively easy because the bug report is very fresh, but if you have a different username on gitlab it can be hard to find the topic.
