It looks like you have installed an old version of KiCad, v5 or even v4, from the Mint repo. Those repos are often out of date. Detete that installation and use the instructions for Ubuntu here to install the latest v7 KiCad:
Even though there is a warning stating Mint is an unsupported package, it works without any trouble.
I use Mint.
