Error 32: KiCad Can't Remove Temp File – File in Use

While working in KiCad, I encountered the following error message:

this pops up during normal editing in PCB layout mode. It seems like KiCad is trying to delete a temp file, but something else is locking it.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Any idea what might be causing this, or how to prevent it?

Maybe a backup process running? Is the file stored in the cloud?

I suggest you also run an integrity check on your whole file system and have a look at the SMART data of your SSD / HDD to see if it has logged any errors lately.
