I am using KiCad 4.0.0.rc1 on Win7 64. I am having a hard time with drawing tracks in Eeschema:
A) Is there is a “magic” snap function that sticks a new track to its supposed pin/connection?
B) Is there a trick how to edit a track such a way that one just klicks on an end of a track and draws the line just to its supposed target? I mean like “stretching” the line automatically instead of moving the whole line?
I just can select the line and move it completely. But by this the track is “broken” on the other side.
OK, as to question “B” I found that one has to select the line by clicking the right mouse button and then choosing from the mouse menue by clicking with the right mouse button again, and not the left mouse button like I did.
Is there a trick how to match the “square” which marks the end of the line with the “circle” which marks the end of the pin right on first try?
Another thing is the way selecting the line. The square does not seem to be the “selecting area” where one clicks the mouse cursor. If I select the line that is connected to a part already I select both and can’t just move the end of the line in the first place. Is this a bug or a feature? How can I simply select and stretch the line and match the target?
all left click, just hover over the pin and click… usually snaps to it within 3-4 pixels? There might be a setting somewhere to set the snap distance…
if you mean grabbing, then yes… instead of [M] hit [G] on the keyboard to move symbols/tracks/etc. without them losing connection to the other stuff.
If you select groups and want them to stay connected hit [TAB] once you selected them…
All of that is in the tutorials though or at least have a look at the shortcut key list via [SHIFT]+[?]
Yes, I read that too. I still get the feeling, that Eeschema does not always react the same way to the same mouse click. While trying to select the line, sometimes I only see the part and its pin in the mouse menue and no line. Next time the list is different again. It is a time consuming process. Patience is not my strength, I know…
