Hi,
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I could not find anything related to it:
I have a footprint like this:
It’s for a small bottom mount SMD microphone… the unusual thing is that the component contains a small through hole (NPTH) for the sound port, around which it has an annular ring shaped GND pad.
Without taking additional measures in the footprint design, this leads to the unusual situation of having a closed ring on the paste layer. That, as it turns out, is a problem when you want to make a stencil, duh.
If you don’t want the NPTH filled with solder paste, you have to provide apertures in the paste layer to connect the inner area to the rest of the stencil:
(here the bottom paste layer, with the blue bottom copper layer showing through. the NPTH colour has been changed to grey)
So my question is:
could DRC catch this error - e.g. to have a setting like “Isolated island on paste later”? Is it already possible and I just can’t find it?
Or should I raise a feature suggestion about it? Or is it a ridiculous suggestion?
