No, not possible. If you don’t want the cross, the only solution is to not use that feature and instead indicate DNP with field or something.
First of all, I am happy to see the option “Do not populate”. I had asked for such an option in the past. Its very handy, especially once you want to have alternative options for connections on a board, using 0 Ohm resistors. Some can be pre-populated, others not.
But I do agree with davidsrsb. This big red cross over the grayed out component looks terrible. Grayed out only without the red cross would be perfectly fine.

I also agree 100% with you.
But the original discussion is already some days old and in the meantime a configurable color for this red cross was introduced into the developer version.
So with v799-nightly you already can change the red-cross opacity to zero, so no cross is visible.

I think it may well have been copied from Altium . . .
I don’t mind it as I see it quite often, I’ve become used to it.
