i am trying to design a simple charging circuit for my pcb however i am not sure if it is correct or makes sense so i am hoping someone with a bit more experience could help me. So i am using Solar cells and 4 NiMH Battery cells of 1.2V each (+ a zener Diode). I am trying to source a 5 V dev Board mounted on the PCB with it . Here is what my charging circuit currently looks like :
PS: The Conn_01x02 is supposed to attach the Solar panels.
I am not sure if my circuit is correct so feel free to correct me or ask me additional questions
This is not a forum for basic circuit design. Try eevblog for that type of thing. This is about how to use Kicad to implement your design if you have trouble with the software.
Aside from this not being the appropriate forum, NiMH batteries require a charger designed for their chemistry. Trying to use such a simple circuit is likely to damage or destroy the batteries.
You really need to learn about electronics before you attempt a project like this.
I agree whole heartedly, whole stomachedly, and with most of my liver as well.
I have been designing power electronics since 1980. My slug-o-cuter is powered by a 40W solar panel which feeds a commercial charge control module which charges a 12V sealed lead acid battery and powers my board.
About 30 years ago I professionally designed a NiMH charger for medical purposes. It used a charge control IC from Benchmarq (now TI).
