Debian and KiCad 8

Does anyone know what’s up with KiCad v8 on Debian? I’m running Debian Testing and the packages for the symbols and footprints have updated to v8 but the code is still v7. Unfortunately, that means that KiCad can no longer access those symbols and footprints since they’re now a major version ahead. Any news on when the v8 code might drop?

It has to wait for at least 3 more days and for the migration of wxwidgets3.2 to testing.
