I am using this footprint(DSUB-9_Female_Horizontal_P2.77x2.84mm_EdgePinOffset4.94mm_Housed_MountingHolesOffset7.48mm) in my design. Now i am looking for this connector at DigiKey.But i dont have any idea about (EdgePinOffset4.94mm_Housed_MountingHolesOffset7.48mm) part in the footprint. Can anyone please share a link for this component or explain what 4.94 and 7.48mm indicates.
There is a link in the footprint description to this datasheet:
Be careful, DB9s are only standardised on the connector side. The PCB mounting types have a lot of variation on pin size, position and the two fixings
Take a close look at VMEBus specifications. Page 189 is a good stating point for mechanical references.
It may seem unrelated, however that’s what those kind of sizes your are asking for relate to.
The different offsets are with respect of the connector to the pcb’s edge and(or not) mounted front panel. Thickness, distance to the casing outside etc.
Lots of room for confusion. That’s why you need to be VERY precise if the mechanics are meant to match up the first time.
