D-Sub plug vs. receptacle symbol orientation

Just to be sure I’m not missing the reason behind:

Is it by intention that D-Sub receptacle symbols have pin 1 at the top, while plugs have pin 1 at the bottom?

KLC S4.2 - 2 says “Ports should be ordered from top to bottom”.

If the intention is to match the “signal flow” in a certain direction like “plugs are often inputs and therefore at the left”, wouldn’t it be cleaner to put pin 1 always on the top but the pins to the right for plugs?

KLC S4.2 -6 says “Output/Controlled/Driver pins should be placed on the right of a symbol”.

I put some symbols next to each other for some visual confirmation:

For the rest, I never thought much about the difference. The symbols can be rotated and mirrored.

exactly. Rotating the plug would make it more KLC compliant.

A minor issue arises with the “mounting hole” versions: If you rotate it, the mounting hole pin is on the top side.

As a KiCad newbie, I just want to avoid to miss the reason behind.

If it was my schematic, I’d rotate J10 about the X axis and rotate J11 about the Y axis and leave their placement, with respect to each other, the same.

The result being:
signal comes from somewhere off to the left into J10, across a small gap into J11, then off to the right.
Pin 1 would be at the top and pin 5 at the bottom in both cases.
