What’s up with the funky cursor behavior in V7? The cursor seems to jump around and approximately follow the mouse, unlike in V6 and earlier where it remains attached to the mouse pointer. Is there a setting to turn this very annoying “feature” off?
Through experimenting, I answered this one myself. The overall system apparently defaults to “fast antialiasing”, unlink V6 and V5. Reset this to “no antialiasing” and it works as before. Just what does antialiasing do?
Anti aliasing is in: Preferences / Preferences / Common, and it should not influence cursor behavior in such a way.
The goal of anti-aliasing is to deterimine (monitor) pixel colors to use when (for example a slanted) line, circle or other graphic object only partly covers a pixel, Then the color will be partially the color of the graphic item, and partially the color of the “background”. The idea is to reduce the visibility of “jaggedness” on edges of graphic objects.
If this has a big effect on cursor behavior, then I would start with updating the graphics drivers.
