Creating Polygon in Footprint

I want to create a special footprint. It has this shape and the “PAD” marked with yellow is a real Pad.
I placed a polygon that has the shape of the green marking. But I can not asign a net to that polygon. And even if I do and go out of edit mode, it is removed again…

The simplest solution is to just draw 5 pads and use the same pad number for all 5 rectangles.

For the rest [Ctrl + e] has multiple functions in KiCad. For a pad, it can be used to enter and exit the Pad Edit mode. but the same hotkey is also used to enter and exit blocks.

For a complex pad and using pad edit mode. you start by placing a single pad, then select the pad and enter the pad edit mode with [Ctrl + e], and add graphic items on the copper layer to the pad. When done, press [Ctrl + e] again to exit the pad edit mode. Any graphics overlapping with the pad will become part of the pad at the moment the pad edit mode is exited.

Another way…

Footprints know nothing/shouldn’t know anything about Nets until the footprint is placed on a projects PCB.

When I do this, it’s usually for GND and Power Planes but, that doesn’t matter…
