Creating Op Amp Symbols and Footprints

Are there OpAmp symbols hidden somewhere in KiCad, or do you create your own?

I hereby certify that I am not simply asking someone else to design a footprint for me.

This is an auto-generated message that is in place on the “footprints” section of the KiCad.info forum. If I remove it and ask for a footprint to be designed anyway, I understand that I will be subject to forum members telling me to go design my own footprint or referring me to a 3rd party footprint site.

In the symbol editor. Footprints are generally standard packages, you know, DIP-8, SOIC-8, TINCAN-8.

I would say that they are not so hidden, and I do make my own. As @retiredfeline indicated, look for the part number such as LM324 for example. Many op amps have the same pin connections, and one can serve for many once it is re-named. I like to go for smaller fonts and shorter pins, so I usually edit to make my own symbols.

There are also opamp_dual and opamp_quad under DEVICE
I’m not sure why there isn’t a generic single

Because the pinouts for singles are all over the place. And there’s an issue with the supply pins. On duals and quads, it’s solved by adding a unit C or E for the power connections. but that’s really clumsy for a single.

I made my own with generic 741/TL071 pinout and power pins included and solved the input swapping by using a Demorgan equivalent so I can swap the inputs while leaving the power pins where they are.
Has saved me a lot of time and effort.

True. More than power, its common to have extra compensation and power mode pins on singles
