Creating a custom pad - sliced oval (subtract shape?)

Hi folks,

I’m trying to create a footprint for a USB-C connector. It has 4 oval PTH’s for mounting tabs. Two of the PTH’s have oval pads that are “sliced off” on one side, as shown below. Any idea whether it’s possible to do this entirely within Kicad?

I don’t think you can subtract shapes, but maybe I’m wrong. If you can, this would be easy. Seems like the best I could do would be to hand draw a polygon on the copper layer, but I was looking for a cleaner solution than hand-drawn. Another option might be to create a shape in another tool & import it, but I’d rather avoid that if possible.

I’m really just looking to understand if there’s a clean way to do this entirely within Kicad - i.e. am I missing something simple? If not, I’ll probably try to create the shape from another tool & import it.

Thank you!

Steve

The simplest option I know is to add an offset to the hole in the pad.
It does not give the exact same result, but I would call it close enough.

Thank you so much for the reply - I hadn’t thought of that one. Much appreciated. :+1:
