I am building a circuit from several others and I am copying all of the schematics together with an “append” command. I will do the same with the layouts to create a self consistent file.
As I append schematics all of the reference numbers are lost however, and replaced by a question mark. I need to preserve this reference data during the copy so the connection with the layouts will “sync up”.
Is there some work around do to this?
Thanks
Fritz
Instead of appending you could add your old schematics as a hierarchical sheet. At least in the past this allowed keeping the annotations not sure if this has changed.
And there is the save/restore extension by @MitjaN which also relies on hierarchical sheets so even if the reference preservation does not work the save restore feature should function.
Thanks Rene. I tried the hierarchical sheet method and I am able to copy sheets from other circuits to the one being worked on and them link them as sheets without the parts losing their names.
The use of hierarchical sheets allows one to merge schematics while preserving the reference numbers.
However, now I want to condense some of the sheets to make things neater and easier to read.
When I select a group of items from one sheet, cut it (CTL-X) and then paste it to another sheet, all of the reference data is lost (e.g. the question marks return).
Is there a way to move items from sheet to sheet without losing their reference names?
