Comments about 6.0 RC1 Version

I got V6.00 with a daily build.

I noticed that settings didn’t get imported from 5.99 version, I now make tilted and ugly looking routes now, and not 0, 45 or 90 like before.
Editing old routes/tracks is as slow as before.

V does not always create a new via, but it is good for changing layers. Sometimes I had to press V for several times before I actually got a through via.
And again, if I click a route/track I want continue from that, and not create a stray track.

Is drawing a schematic fixed. Just before V6.00 I noticed that I had a break on one of my connections. The wires touched each other but they did not make a contact.

No autoroute. I spent some time routing, or doing agility training for mice, trivial routes, autoroute could have done those.

interesting. I got an question-dialog “do you want to import your old settings from v5.99?” during install of v6.0rc1. And after clicking on that checkbox I got my old settings. Maybe try again an deinstall / new install cycle with an actual download?
exception: the user.hotkeys-file is not copied from the 5.99 version, this file has to be copied manually.

  • setting “free angle mode” enabled? (under interactive router settings)

Do you have the option “snap to tracks” set? (see picture)

Yeah, that bug was also reported on gitlab and seems fixed since some days.

No autoroute.

As far as I could read out from all discussions/threads/answers on gitlab it is not planned to introduce an autorouter in the near future. I believe permanent complaining will not change this.

If I download and install the latest Windows nightly, will it identify as 6.00?

It will (or at least should) identify as 6.0.0-rc1.

Yes you will get version 6.00. Today Build Info:
Date: Nov 18 2021 00:01:04
The download page does not tell much, but you’ll get ver 6.00

Just to prevent confusion:

This is not the 6.0.0 release.

6.0.0-rc1-48-g8f87638de5 means a nightly build 48 commits after the 6.0.0-rc1 tag.

When 6.0.0 is released, the version will look like:

6.0.0

On some platforms, there may be some extra things after the 6.0.0, but there will not be a rc1 or a Git commit hash like g8f87638de5 in there.

What does it look like in the download page. kicad-msvc.r25233.8f87638de5-x86_64.exe is not very clear.

I downloaded todays version and installed it, no questions about " I got an question-dialog “do you want to import your old settings from v5.99?” during install of v6.0rc1. And after clicking on that checkbox I got my old settings. Maybe try again an deinstall / new install cycle with an actual download?"

setting “free angle mode” enabled? (under interactive router settings). I think so

Yes. Exactly as in your picture, but shouldn’t it be Snap to tracks “Always”

That download page where you see that name will always give you a nightly build. The stable release, when it is ready, will be located in a different place and will have a more clear filename.

And even when the stable 6.0 release is available, the page linked to above is going to give you the first nightly of 6.99…

On Windows, if you look in Program Files - KiCad, you will see a 5.99 directory and now a 6.0 directory for this rc1++ series. You may also have “bin” from 5.1.x
