Is it possible to combine multiple pads into one ‘custom shaped pad’?
Or is this option only for graphics shapes?
I’m getting an error ‘selection contains more than one reference pad’.
I’d prefer avoid drawing the ‘satellite pads’ with drawing lines.
It’s STMITE FLAT, pretty simple just two rectangles overlapped. I’ve used to have two pads overlaid, but since there was ‘shape to pad’ option I wanted to cleanup my footprint.
If my understanding is correct, for your need, every linked pad shall have the same net name.
Here’s an example of what I did. It could have any shape and pad number depending on the user’s needs.
I usually design single face PCBs mainly because I’ve a large stock of blank boards. Of course, I have to use lots of straps every time to connect the tracks from the component side. So I have created combo pads vith various lengths made of two standard THT pads linked by a custom shaped SMD one. Every pad has its own numbers.
In addition, and in order that: first, these straps appear in the BOM, second the net name is kept along the process, I have created a dedicated symbol I attach to the desired net in eeschema. This symbol has 3 superimposed pins that are all connected to the same net. Pin 1 is visible, pin-2 & 3 are hidden.
