I may be confusing this with a different PCB layout program I sometimes use, but I thought there was a “set track width” tool where you choose the size, then any track segment you click on changes to that width, and clicking with the right meta key changes all connected segments to that width. Am I remembering a different app?
In KiCad the work flow is the other way around. You first make a selection, and then select what to do with it.
