I don’t think a key is a good item for the logo of an open source project, and I also see no overlap between the eye and KiCad.
Some time ago though I saw a logo where the “Ki” part was drawn in PCB traces and that was done very artfull & beautyfull.
I think it is about the different possible pronunciations of KiCad

Nice one. The “i” has a very different standard pronunciation in different languages. The spelling of KiCad was always going to cause this ambiguity. In Malay “i” is short as in king and “c” is more like “ch”
