Choose footprint for push button smd

I hereby certify that I am not simply asking someone else to design a footprint for me.

This is an auto-generated message that is in place on the “footprints” section of the KiCad.info forum. If I remove it and ask for a footprint to be designed anyway, I understand that I will be subject to forum members telling me to go design my own footprint or referring me to a 3rd party footprint site.

Hi I want to use a standard push button in my project. I’m looking to use this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005633442363.html. They have specs attached there.

In the Button_Switch_SMD category, which of those work for these standard switches? There’s quite a list to compare through…

Also if there are recommendations to use another simple push button vendor let me know. Thank you.

Button_Switch_SMD:SW_SPST_TL3342 looks very similar.

One of the pictures in the gallery is a mechanical drawing with dimensions. Use that to find a matching footprint. If no exact match, adapt an existing footprint or make one. It’s a simple part.

Hi thanks for the prompt reply! It did look similar but the pad spacing is different. Not a problem I found a matching part https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004312015111.html!

It’s an unusual use, but you can use the SOIC wizard in the footprint editor to make footprints for such switches if you can get the dimensions from drawings or measurements. For example:

You can always tweak the lines and the pad numbers afterwards, e.g. 1,1,2,2 instead of 1,2,3,4.

Thank you for the follow-up… I will look up how to modify an existing layout. Looks simple enough.
In this case though I just went with an approximate match since I’ll be hand soldering it.
