Changing 4 layer to 6 layer

KiCad 9.0.3, Windows 10/64
I have been using KiCad for about a year and Eagle for many. I recently changed a 4 layer board to a 6 layer board. Now vias don’t don’t connect to the new layers. The layer names are the same as the layer names shown on the right side. The track and via properties form shows net /VD1 (common) and update via nets is checked. I have copper pours on the new planes. Zone name is blank. Help please.

It looks like this is a bug. Below a link to another thread with the same problem.

See if closing and reopening KiCad solves it for you too

This is exactly what I did, go from 2 to 4 (rather than starting with 4)
